The Winter Lecture Series continues at the Florence Lowden Miller Historic Pullman Center – this month, Lynn Smith and Sue James will spotlight two incredible gardeners. First is Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994), one of the most influential modern garden-architects that you’ve probably never heard of – known particularly in Brazil for his artistic versatility and flair, conservation ethic, and transformation of public spaces, his concern for the environment still lives on today. And Beatrix Farrand (1872-1959), considered the first woman landscape architect (she preferred the term landscape gardener). Ferrand created Dumbarton Oaks, and many of the public spaces of Acadia, was the only woman among the founders of Landscape Architects in 1899.
