Frederick Law Olmsted & the African American Heritage Water Trail

Local Pullman historian and resident Andy Morgen presents one of the great landscape designers of all-time: Frederick Law Olmstead. Best known as the architect of New York City’s Central Park, Olmstead was also keenly involved in the World’s Columbian Exposition here in Chicago and depicted in the best-selling novel, “Devil and the White City.”

A Southsider with valuable knowledge of the Little Calumet River, Tom Shepard discusses the extraordinary history of the African American Heritage Water Trail – A 7-mile stretch that celebrates the remarkable stories of African Americans escaping persecution who made their way across this unique bit of Illinois on their way north.
